At Grace, we believe in the importance of reading to the overall education of a child and in the importance of maintaining those reading skills throughout the summer months. With this in mind, we require all of our students to participate in our summer reading plan.

Students who will be entering 1st grade - 5th grade please see information below.

​

Students who will be entering 6th or 7th grades must read one required book and choose at least two books from their recommended reading list and complete the Summer Reading Journal for three books.

​

Students who will be entering 8th grade must PURCHASE and read one required book and choose at least two books from their recommended reading list and write a one-paragraph summary for each book. Books will be used throughout the year in class.  

 

Students who will be entering 9th , 10th, 11th, and 12th grades will find specific instructions at the end of their reading lists.

GCS Elementary Summer Reading – Summer 2024

​

This summer we have three reading option for our Elementary Students (rising Kindergarten - 5th graders!)

​

Choice #1:  Our AR Learning Center will be open on Tuesdays, (June 4th -July 30th) from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. for students to check out books and take AR tests.  We will keep track of the tests each student takes and give the log to the student’s classroom teacher at the start of the school year. We will also host our AR store once each month for the students to collect the prizes they have earned!

June AR Store:  Tuesday, June 25 (9a.m. - 1 p.m.)

July AR Store:  Tuesday, July 30 (9a.m. - 1 p.m.)

**New this summer:  Our AR Center will offer a few fun activities this summer!  Watch the GPS Facebook page for announcements!

 

Choice #2:  Students may use the reading log listed below to record books read over the summer.  Please bring the reading log to turn in the first week of school. Students will receive a small prize for turning in their reading log!

Choice #3:  Join the Summer reading program at your local library!

You will need to signup for "Beanstack" (an online reading log website used by the parish libraries.)  This can be done online (WWW.RPL.ORG), or over the phone, or in person.  Record the books read over the summer and get the incentive rewards from  your branch library.   Print a copy of your reading log to school to turn in the first week we return to school.  Students will receive a small prize for turning in their reading log!
